Where your voice goes
The free preview uses your browser's built-in speech recognition. Unless your device can recognize speech on its own, Chrome sends the audio to Google and Edge sends it to Microsoft. That is fine for a try, not for a confidential call. With the membership, transcription can run on your device, and notes are encrypted on your device.

- Is this voice dictation really free?
- Yes. Dictation in the free preview costs nothing and needs no account. The membership, $1.99 a month or $8.99 a year, adds an adaptive homepage that brings your thoughts back, on-device transcription that works offline, AI summaries and notes encrypted on your device.
- Which browsers does voice typing work in?
- Chrome and Edge on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. Other browsers either lack built-in speech recognition or run it unreliably.
- Can I turn a meeting or a video into text?
- Yes. Instead of the microphone, choose any tab or your whole screen and share its audio, and the transcript appears as people talk. It works with Zoom, Google Meet and Teams in the browser, and with videos or lectures playing in a tab.
- Does it work offline?
- Usually not. Chrome and Edge recognize speech on their servers, so you need a connection. Some devices support on-device recognition, which can work offline. With the membership, transcription can run on your device, offline.
- Why does it pause when I go quiet?
- Browsers end a recognition session after silence or about a minute. The preview restarts it for you while you keep recording, and the text you already have stays on the page.
- How do I keep my text?
- Copy the transcript or download it as Markdown. Preview notes are kept only in this browser, unencrypted and without backup, so clearing browser data or using a private window deletes them. If you join, your preview notes are imported and encrypted on your device.
- Is my voice private?
- Not fully, and we say so. In the free preview, Chrome sends the audio to Google and Edge to Microsoft unless on-device recognition is available. jotty.pro does not receive your audio or notes. For confidential recordings, use the membership with on-device transcription.
- How is this different from Wispr Flow?
- Wispr Flow is an app you install on Mac, Windows, iOS or Android, and it types what you say into other apps. Its free plan has a weekly word limit. The jotty.pro preview runs in Chrome or Edge with nothing to install and no account, transcribes your mic, any tab or your whole screen, such as a meeting or a video, and keeps your notes in this browser.
